ABOUT ME
Roberto Bonfà, Roby to his friends
Nerd, IT and cybersecurity specialist. On the blog I write about everything I obsess over - home automation, security, thrillers, crime series, cinema and whatever comes next. Here instead are the things I build: four iPhone apps, a few websites and the themes I use at home.
I could have written this page in an elegant, institutional way, with the jacket photo, the bullet list of skills and a motivational quote at the bottom. Then I remembered who I am, and changed course.
The character, and the temper
I am sociable, kind and polite with those who deserve it. An early riser and a night owl at the same time, which has never done anyone any good. Playful almost always, sarcastic often enough that some find it awkward: to me that is a feature, not a bug, and I have no intention of fixing it.
I am excessively transparent: what I think, I say. I have an exceptional memory, which is not always an advantage: I remember conversations from years ago, promises not kept and the ending of the film someone spoiled for me in 2009.
I love rainy days, snow and thunderstorms. I hate heat with a visceral hatred no summer will ever dent, and I hate flying enough that I once drove all night across six countries rather than board a plane.
A house that is a lab
I live in a house where the number of cables is inversely proportional to the plants: zero real plants, many cables, two cats who have not yet understood that the house is mine and not theirs.
Everything on this site runs at home: a small server always on, separate machines for each project, home automation holding the rest together. None of it sits on somebody else's service, and that is not a pose: I simply like knowing where my things are.
How I work
The apps I write ask for no account, have no subscription and send nothing off the phone. The sites I write load no fonts from outside, count no visitors, carry no advertising and read fine with JavaScript turned off.
It is not minimalism as a fashion. It is that something which does little, done well, ages better than something that does everything.
Where to find me
The links are at the bottom of every page: the blog, the terminal, the code on GitHub. To write to me there is an email address, which goes through no third-party service.
