From a browser generator to an app

Roberto Bonfa' · 2026-07-01

wallpapers.robertobonfa.com drew wallpapers inside the browser: you picked a shape and a palette, and the image was born right there. Then you downloaded it and saved it wherever you wanted.

Thanks to a YouTube video and an Instagram reel by mobiscrub, the site saw a huge spike in visits. That is when I decided to build an iOS app. Why? Because a wallpaper for a smartphone is looked at on the phone, not on the computer. And browsing today happens on mobile devices 70 to 75% of the time.

The idea of EveryWall was born (a name that came from the earlier app EveryCent).

Bringing the engine, not the images

The choice was to bring the engine to the iPhone, instead of putting the images in an archive to download. An archive would have been simpler to build, but it would have meant an app that downloads files, which is exactly what I did not want.

So the two things (site and app) do the very same job in two different places.

The piece that holds them together

The wallpaper code: a few letters describing shape, palette, mode, grain, intensity and seed. Made on the site, it works in the app and the other way round. It is text, so it survives even the messaging apps that compress images. Share the code (made on the site or in the app) with a friend, a partner, anyone, and you both see the same wallpaper, with the same options.

And that is why the site did not become useless the day the app came out: they are two doors into the same room. And above all, no iOS? It does not matter, you visit the site from Android, a PC or a tablet and you get your own wallpaper.

In closing

The easiest step was giving the app and the website the same name. That is why wallpapers.robertobonfa.com has moved to its new address, everywall.app, and above all why EveryWall for iOS was born.
