EveryJot

The story

EveryJot comes from the same irritation as EveryCent: something you do twenty times a day has to cost almost nothing, or you stop doing it.

With notes the cost was not the writing, but everything that came before it: opening the app, choosing where to put the note, giving it a title. Three small steps, and yet enough to make the nearest scrap of paper win. Hence the rule the app is built on: it opens ready to write, the keyboard is already up and the title comes from the first line.

The rest arrived by using it. Notebooks and tags, because after a few weeks there were too many notes to scroll. A formatting bar with five commands of your choice, because the ones that actually matter differ from person to person. Protected notes, because some things only get written down if they stay unreadable to everyone else, including whoever wrote the app: hence real encryption, with a PIN that is never stored anywhere, instead of a screen that merely hides.

As with EveryCent, the data goes through no server: it stays on the phone and mirrors into the private iCloud container of whoever uses the app. What differs between the two apps is what you write in them, not how the data is treated.
